Giving Parents and Others Permission to Access Student Account Information

Would you like your parents or other family members to access your UVA financial information in UVAPay? This includes tuition billing, financial aid details, and the ability to pay your bill on your behalf or discuss your student account with SFS. Set up authorized users in UVAPay today.

This diagram outlines the process a student must follow to grant establish authorized users on their account.
Establishing Authorized Users in UVAPay

In addition to having access to the student's account, authorized users can:

  • receive email notifications about new charges, past due charges, and applying for need-based financial aid
  • view charges on the student's account
  • sign up for the semester payment plan
  • pay individual charges on the student account through the authorized user login to UVAPay

This authorization also allows Student Financial Services to have free and open conversations on the phone, through email, or in person with individuals set up as authorized users. Without this, we cannot speak with anyone but the student about their UVA finances.

Students, follow these steps to set up an authorized user.

  1. Log in to your SIS account (www.virginia.edu/sis)
  2. Click on "What I Owe" in the Financials menu
  3. On the "What I Owe" page, click the UVAPay button in the upper right of the screen
  4. Once in UVAPay, in the Quick Links section to the right
  5. Choose "Set Up Now" next to the option for authorized users. You must know the e-mail address of the person you wish to authorize.

The authorized user will receive an e-mail explaining how to log in to the system to verify their authorized user account. Make sure the email address you enter is correct or your authorized user won't receive important email messages from our office.

Students can cancel access of an authorized user at any time.

Resetting a Password for an Authorized User

Only the authorized user can reset their password. Neither the student nor Student Financial Services can do this for them. If the user is unable to reset the password, it might be necessary for the student to remove the existing authorized user account and establish a new one.
